El Paso police responded to a call of family violence on Sunset Rose Drive in the eastside on Valentine's Day. A police notification stated that a shooting involving a police officer happened at 3444 Sunset Rose Drive. Reports stated that a person was armed with a shotgun.

Two new officer/canine teams are joining the El Paso International Airport’s K-9 unit. The two teams from the El Paso Police Department are trained to detect explosives. While the teams will work primarily at the airport, they can also assist with explosive detection city-wide and help with safety of major city events.

El Paso Police officials on Monday released the name of a man wounded in a police shooting in Downtown over the weekend. Eduardo D. Reyes, 33, of Laveen, Arizona, in the Phoenix area, was shot late Saturday night in a confrontation with officers outside The Tap Bar and Restaurant, police said.

Man shot by EPPD officer in downtown El Paso

El Paso Police say a bicycle officer shot a man who pointed a weapon at them while responding to an assault call in Downtown El Paso Saturday night. The shooting happened at the 400 block of E. San Antonio Ave., near The Tap bar and restaurant. The call came in just after 11 p.m. The suspect was transported to University Medical Center with a gunshot wound, but he is expected to survive.

A 23-year veteran of the El Paso Police Department has died of COVID-19, according to Dist. 7 City Rep. Henry Rivera. He is the first officer in the department to pass away from the virus. Detective Camerino Santiago passed away early Monday morning, according to the El Paso Police Department. Samaniego was assigned to Internal Affairs.

Camerino Santiago, a detective for the police department, is the first police law enforcement officer to die from the virus, said representative Henry Rivera. Santiago was 67 years old. He was looking to retire at the end of January, stated Rivera.

An El Paso police officer was arrested Friday on suspicion of helping a local drug distributor further his criminal enterprise. El Paso police officer Monica Garcia, 23, is charged on suspicion of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine, conspiracy to unlawfully use a communication facility and conspiracy to maintain a drug involved premise.

Man Arrested In Houston Police Sergeant's Shooting Death

A man out on bond for a gun possession charge was arrested Tuesday in the shooting death of HPD Sgt. Sean Rios, as investigators continue to piece together what precipitated the deadly gun battle on Houston's northside. Robert Soliz, 24, was taken into custody on the Katy Freeway and now faces a murder charge, police said. Case records were not yet available Tuesday night.

Two nonprofits who keep track of law enforcement line of duty deaths say that COVID-19 is responsible for killing more officers per year than gunfire, car accidents, and all other causes combined. Open Enrollment Period for 2021 Health Insurance

The Open Enrollment period for insurance benefits will take place from November 2 through 20, 2020. Elections made during Open Enrollment will be effective January 1, 2021 and the new adjusted rates will begin on the January 8, 2021 paycheck.  Due to COVID-19 there will be no on-site or in-person sessions. There will also be no walk-ins allowed while City Hall is closed.
