Family, friends remember Kendall County Deputy Carlos Ramirez

Deputy Carlos Ramirez was laid to rest at the Fort Bliss National Cemetery on Tuesday.  Graveside ceremony for Deputy Carlos Ramirez at Fort Bliss Cemetery The fallen deputy was an El Paso native who graduated from Burges High School. Ramirez was a U.S. Army Reserve veteran who served the Kendall County Sheriff's office for three years.

Funeral services set for Texas sheriff’s deputy, Burges grad, killed in crash on I-10

Funeral services for the 2006 Burges High School grad who was killed by a passing car while conducting a traffic stop early last week have been announced. Deputy Carlos (Smiley) Ramirez, 32, had just celebrated his birthday the day before he was tragically killed while on duty July 2. Ramirez was conducting a traffic stop when a vehicle struck and killed him along I-10 near Boerne, Texas.

A Kendall County Sheriff’s Deputy killed when he was struck by a passing vehicle on I-10 near Boerne, Texas Tuesday was a 2006 Burges High School grad, according to a local law enforcement source. Deputy Carlos Ramirez was outside of his unit on I-10 responding to a traffic stop when he was struck and killed.

The El Paso Police Department posted a photo on Facebook of Officer Daniel Rodriguez standing up and using a walker in the hospital. Rodriguez was driving a motorcycle while escorting a funeral procession when he was struck by a driver trying to cut through the procession on May 23.

Gov. Greg Abbott signs bill into law to help Texas police officers pay back student loans

Police departments across the state of Texas will now be able to offer recruits student loan repayment assistance. This comes after Gov. Greg Abbott signed a bill into law this week. Senate Bill 16 allows police departments across Texas to give officers a maximum of $20,000 in state money to pay off their student loans.

The El Paso Police Department posted a photo of Officer Daniel Rodriguez sitting up in the hospital with his family and friends. Rodriguez was driving a motorcycle while escorting a funeral procession when he was struck by a driver trying to cut through the procession on Thursday, May 23. FBI Releases LEOKA Statistics For 2018

The FBI has released the latest statistics on fallen officers who were killed in the line of duty in 2018.  According to the report, 106 officers were killed last year.  Of the 106 deaths, 55 were felonious acts and 51 were accidents.

The Texas Department of Transportation is launching their annual Click It or Ticket Campaign on Wednesday, May 8, to reduce the number of drivers and passengers who are killed or seriously injured because they’re not buckled up. According to TxDOT, wearing a seat belt reduces the risk of dying in a crash by 45% in a passenger vehicle, and up to 60% in a pickup truck.
